VetSkill’s Veterinary Nursing Diplomas approved for Scottish Modern Apprenticeship
We are thrilled to share that the VetSkill VTEC Diplomas in Veterinary Nursing (Companion Animal & Equine) are now included as qualifications in the Scottish Modern Apprenticeship.
Modern Apprentices (MAs) in Scotland will now be able to work towards our SCQF Level 7 qualifications while learning to work in a real-world veterinary environment.
VetSkill received accreditation as an awarding body and approval from SQA Accreditation for five key veterinary nursing and animal care sector qualifications in August 2024.
What is a Modern Apprenticeship?
Delivered by Skills Development Scotland, Modern Apprenticeships play a significant role in the Scottish Government’s efforts to develop its workforce and decrease youth unemployment.
By taking on a Modern Apprenticeship, MAs have the opportunity to build work experience, learning on the job and earning, while working towards a recognised qualification.
There are over 80 different Scottish Modern Apprenticeship frameworks, positively contributing to areas such as healthcare, accounting, engineering, marketing and more, developed in conjunction with their industries.
Veterinary Nursing Modern Apprenticeship
The Veterinary Nursing Modern Apprenticeship gives Student Veterinary Nurses (SVNs) the chance to enrich their career by providing a package of learning, which includes a Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) accredited qualification and Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs), alongside practical training through which extra skills are gained.
Each MA is required to achieve an SCQF Level 7 Veterinary Nursing qualification by VetSkill or another awarding organisation during their apprenticeship. For example:
VetSkill VTEC Diploma in Veterinary Nursing (Companion Animal) at SCQF Level 7
VetSkill VTEC Diploma in Veterinary Nursing (Equine) at SCQF Level 7
After completing the Veterinary Nursing Modern Apprenticeship, the MA will become a Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN).
VetSkill VTEC Diplomas in Veterinary Nursing SCQF Level 7
The VetSkill VTEC Diplomas in Veterinary Nursing (Companion Animal & Equine) at SCQF Level 7 have been developed in line with the up-to-date RCVS Day One Skills (DOS), Day One Competences (DOCs) and Professional Behaviours for Veterinary Nurses.
Designed to develop RVNs with a holistic approach to their work, the qualifications embrace the evolving evidence-based veterinary nursing sector and encompass contemporary veterinary nursing and reflective practice.
